Mr Verghese Aaron Mathews

Known for his quick wit, eloquence and dedication, Aaron Mathews has leveraged on his vast experience in civil litigation to help clients defend their rights and interests, especially in corporate & commercial disputes and public interest cases.

Trained under the guidance and conventions of Messrs Shook Lin & Bok – one of the oldest and largest law firms in Malaysia, Aaron later ventured into the challenging terrains of litigation practice, leading the litigation team in Messrs Abdul Raman Saad & Associates to greater heights.

With several notable reported cases under his belt and a passion to expand his horizons beyond the bounds of traditional outfits, Aaron began his journey as the Principal of Messrs Aaron Mathews.

Aaron graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) (Hons) and a Masters in Law (LLM) from the University of the West of England. He then pursued the Bar Vocational Course in the U.K. and was called to the English Bar by the Honourable Society of Middle Temple in 2006. He was called to the Malaysian Bar the following year.

Throughout his career, Aaron has had extensive experience in handling various civil and commercial litigation both as solicitor and counsel. His portfolio includes advisory and drafting work in relation to company law issues, litigation involving shareholders, contract & commercial disputes, land disputes, as well as disputes concerning the fields of construction, engineering and oil & gas. Aaron has also done some criminal defense work with the Malaysian Bar Kuala Lumpur Legal Aid Centre.

An enduring ethos of Aaron is to give back to the community. To that end, Aaron has always volunteered his time, on a pro bono basis, as counsel in native title claims brought by the ‘Orang Asli’ in Peninsular Malaysia.

In his spare time, Aaron has given talks on Contract & Commercial Law to various organizations and he is also regularly invited as a judge in mooting competitions. He sat as a committee member for the Kuala Lumpur Bar Civil Practice Committee and currently is the President of the Malaysian Institute of Arbitrators.

Aaron is currently the President of the Malaysian Institute of Arbitrators (2023 to 2025 term).
